Parish Associate Dick Spencer
September 19-October 24

I. September 19  The Human Body in Christian Perspective
II. September 26  Stewardship Responsibility for the Body
III. October 3  What Is "Quality of Life"?
IV. October 10  How Are Health Care Decisions Actually Made?
V. October 17  Your Preferences in Health Care, and How to Make Them Known
VI. October 24  The Key Health Care Issues Facing Our Nation and How They Might Affect Us

Parish Associate Dick Spencer has served on two hospital biomedical advisory committees and has taught an accredited course on biomedical ethics to physicians, nurses and chaplains. He has also taught a graduate course on the subject for Fuller Theological Seminary. More relevant for this class is his 45 years as a pastor and literally thousands of calls on hospital patients - including many consultations on difficult medical decisions that Christians have faced.

This course will focus on the perspective and experience of Christians who inevitably face health care decisions - some of them in times of great crisis. Biblical perspectives on our bodily life and on the realities of the human life span in God's plan will be explored. Practical guidelines on preparing for such issues and decisions will be provided during the class. Those attending will be encouraged to bring their experiences and their questions to the class. Dick will also be willing to meet privately with any in the class you who like to talk over health care decisions.

The class is designed to be of practical value to those who attend. It is open to all.

Apostles' Feet
Featuring guest speaker, Andy Singleterry
September 19 - October 24
Sponsored by the Kairos Group

"Apostles' Feet" is an Adult Education course comprised of Bible studies and practical trainings. This six-session course is aimed at shaping the way we do compassionate ministry and outreach to the poor, both in a church setting and in our daily lives.

Join guest lecturer, Andy Singleterry as he challenges the 'how' and 'why' of ministry to the poor, and encourages us toward greater sharing of our time, money, knowledge, social networks and other resources with those in need.

Andy Singleterry directs the Apostles' Feet Ministry, providing training and coaching to churches and other groups who want to start serving the poor in our community. He also recently joined the staff of Servant Partners, a church-planting organization that works in urban slums around the world.
