If you were there, you might remember that they had eleven “so muches” in their song. In other words they sang “we have so much, so much, so much, so much”…(eleven times)…and then sang “to be thankful for.” It seemed like a lot of “so muches” when we were singing it. The truth is that as I strummed the guitar for them, I actually lost track of where we were in the “so muches”. I had to look at them and follow their lead. They knew exactly where they were in the “so much” syndrome.
Now what if I really did that? What if I thanked God eleven times every day on a regular basis– I mean really thanked him SO MUCH from my heart. I don’t do that. I often go through a whole day without thanking God one time! What is wrong with me?
Then I got to thinking, what if I thanked God so much that at the end of the day, when I reviewed in my head all that had happened, I actually lost track of where I was on my gratitude scale because I had thanked God so many times I just couldn’t even remember the count? What if I was so brimming with gratitude that praise and thanksgiving were continually on my lips? The truth is usually complaint and worry is more likely to come out of me than joyful thanksgiving.
So will you join me in starting a new trend? Lets focus on expressing our gratitude more to God, because we have SO MUCH to be thankful for. We even have MORE than eleven things! Let’s practice noticing the good and being grateful – not entitled. Life is such an awesome gift. We can start right there and keep going. Let’s be the thankful people of God this thanksgiving season and remember to praise him!
