This is the second issue of the Olive Twig that I am writing to you, updating you all on WVPC happenings!
The first good news is that Steve Norment has been hired – our new Youth Director! We are excited about this development and thank everyone who was a part of the long process in finding just the right person. Steve’s first day will be Sunday, December 20th and he will be speaking briefly in that service to introduce himself to all of you. He has done wonderful things with youth groups in the past and we are excited for a great year in youth ministry coming up for our church!
As many of you know from the letter that was sent out, I will be headed out after the two Christmas Eve services on sabbatical, and will return February 9th. Many of you have approached me and have supported, with great enthusiasm, this initiative of Session. I am very grateful for your encouragement as I endeavor to rest and rejuvenate.
As you may be thinking, Steve Norment and I will be like ships passing in the night. In order to facilitate good communication and appropriate staff functioning I have appointed, in consultation with Personnel, Todd Misfeldt and Bob Harrison as Head of Staff in my absence. They will be meeting with Steve N. weekly, and Todd will be leading staff meetings as usual on a weekly basis. Please lend your support to them as they take on this additional leadership role.
As far as programming goes I want to remind you that
THIS SUNDAY COMING UP, DECEMBER 13th, IS VERY SPECIAL!
This is our 90 minute musical celebration of Christmas starting at 9:30am, featuring our choir and an orchestra, along with our Children’s Pageant presentation. Steve Potter and Terri Dias have done outstanding work in creating a seamless worship experience that will pull you right into the wonder and joy of our Savior’s birth.
Directly after worship, please join us in fellowship hall for the RANCHO SANTA MARTA FUNDRAISER LUNCH. Proceeds from this lunch go to support our mission trip in Mexico, which is happening February 13th-19th. All ages and stages from WVPC go every year to support a special needs school and orphanage and work on their ranch. This is the last week to sign up if you want to go. If you can’t attend the trip, support it anyway by eating lunch here at church this Sunday!
Then on Tuesday, December 15th we have our Blue Christmas Service at 7pm for all who have experienced a loss and are mourning during this Christmas season. The service includes scripture readings, two testimonies, a choir anthem and solo, a brief message from Pastor Kim, and a chance to light a candle, receive personal prayer and communion. Join us afterward for a special late night dinner at the home of Judy Keever.
Please also remember folks that our Christmas Eve Services have changed their time.
Live Animal Family Service – 7pm.
Bring the whole family, as we will be celebrating Christ’s birth with fun Christmas music, listening to a story written by Dan Yuen, and following the star to the manger where live animals have already gathered! Lots of time to pet all the animals!
Traditional Candlelight Service – 9:30pm
Come hear the story of Jesus’ coming in scripture and in carols as we light candles to celebrate the Light of Life that has come into our dark world to bring us hope and joy!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.” John 1:3
Blessings To All!
