MINUTE FOR MISSIONS
Do you know what the fastest growing religion is in each of the following countries: Asia, Europe, Middle East, Sub Saharan Africa, North America? Did you guess -
Asia – Islam
Europe – Hinduism/Buddhism
Middle East – Buddhism
Africa – Islam
North America – Islam
World – Islam
Enter CHRISTAR, an international, evangelical mission organization, and dedicated “church planting” mission established in 1939 which WVPC has faithfully supported for many years. Paul & Alice Ryon are currently the Christar missionaries we sponsor.
Christar is deeply committed to creating churches which are accessible to the “least reached” peoples of the world doing so in the culture and language and close proximity to where these “least reached” peoples live. Revelations 5:9 plays a prominent role in Christar missionaries’ carrying out their mission purpose. “People from every tongue, tribe, people and nation will worship God in eternity.”
Currently, there are over 300 missionaries serving in over 20 countries. To become a team member you must first have professional or vocational skills which are deemed valuable by the people you are going to serve in their homeland. Team members do not approach “ministry” as separate from their skills but use these skills as Jesus did to make themselves a vital part of the physical, emotional and social needs of the community. Second, team relationships must manifest God's grace and mercy that will be demonstrated to the “least reached” as they interact with each other. The priority of Christar is the proclamation of God's love and truth as revealed in Christ and the written word of God and workers actively seek opportunities to communicate the truths of the Scriptures in the most culturally appropriate ways possible. This approach to evangelism is a great example of how we can also plant a seed in the world in which we live.
