People have a lot of opinions about Jesus. Some say He was a great teacher. Others say He was a nice guy. Yet others say He was one of the important prophets. These kinds of conversations surrounding the question, “Who is Jesus?” occurred back during Jesus’ time on earth as much as they do today. In fact, one time as Jesus gathered with His disciples, He asked them, “Who do the people say I am?” and after a series of answers, Jesus asked, “Who do YOU say that I am?” Peter, unsurprisingly, was the first of the group to speak. He exclaimed, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Scripture: Matthew 16:13-16 (NIV) 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” |
Do you know who Jesus is?
Take a minute or two to reflect on the question that Jesus is asking you: “Who do YOU say that I am?” After you’ve reflected on that question, in a soft whisper, say, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Let that confession remind you who Jesus is as you begin your prayer walk with Peter. |
